The wine some may say was custom made for the pallet of Wine Critic Robert Parker Jnr & the prized 100 point wine score that changed the evaluating landscape & bought Australia’s and more specifically the Barossa Valley’s best big, full bodied Shiraz’s onto the international stage.

With Torbreck’s 2010 Run Rig scoring 100 points, its almost inevitable the 2010 Laird will achieve a 3rd 100 Point score to accompany the 05, 08 100 point years & the 06 98 point.

Torbreck recently purchased The Laird Vineyard for a staggering $2.4m from Malcolm Seppelt's Circa 1950s vineyard at Marananga, near Seppeltsfield.  No doubt to retain what is arguably Barossa Valley's finest Grand Cru vineyard from Torbreck's original founder & wine visionary David Powell, who had locked in the contract for the concentrated grapes that was reserved for Chris Ringland's early vintages of Three Rivers & Rolf Binder's aptly named The Malcolm.

The wine is aged for three years in hand selected oak sourced from exclusively from the Tronçais forest, resulting in double thickness "Magic Casks" barrels that are perfect for long term wood maturation and ideal for aging Shiraz.

A sensational wine!!!   The attendees of our 2012-2016 Conley’s Fine Wines/Torbreck Wine dinner @ Melbourne’s Botanical and The Point Restaurants enjoyed the 2006 and 2010 Laird alongside the 100 point 2010 Run Rig, so keep your eye out for this year’s CFW Wine event in June/July where we’ll try and top last year.

Worth noting some of the other 100 point vintages in an upcoming Blog post such as one team at Conley’s Fine Wine favourite are Greenock Creek’s Roennfeldt Road Shiraz (100 Points - 95, 96, 98, 02)

LAIRD - THE WINE ADVOCATE (ROBERT PARKER)

2010 Very deep purple-black coloured, Torbreck’s 2010 The Laird offers an extraordinary perfume of Chinese five spice, sandalwood, rose petals, espresso and licorice over a core of prunes, dried mulberries and blackcurrant preserves plus a touch of cloves. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and packed with dried black fruits and exotic spice flavours, the generous fruit is structured with velvety tannins and just enough freshness. It finishes with commendable persistence.
Drink: 2016 - 2030
