Clarendon Hills is an Australian winery, founded in 1989 by Roman Bratasiuk. In 1990 Roman Bratasiuk established Clarendon Hills winery in McLaren Vale, Clarendon 40 kilometers (25 mi) south of Adelaide in South Australia. Clarendon was chosen as a base due to the critical number of old vineyards (50 to 90 years). The township of Clarendon was secured in 1880 by European vagrants, who purchased with them preclonal, unique French vine cuttings and proliferated vineyards over the encompassing ridges. Clarendon is home to immensely fluctuated territory with sandy, earth based soils in the lower raised areas and diverged from smashed shale and ironstone rich, quartz ridden soils in the most astounding zones. Grenache, Syrah Merlot, Mourvedre and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards are sourced by Clarendon Hills inside the Clarendon, Blewitt Springs and Kangarilla locale. Trying to express the engraving a vineyard and its terroir stamps on varietal interpretation, Roman only delivers single vineyard wines. Today there is loads of single vine yard wines in Australia, however when Roman began in 1990, he was a virtual pioneer. In the mid 90's, Roman began getting to be known for his Grenache, yet today it is his noteworthy gathering of ultra great wines spread over his 19 single vineyard cuvee portfolio. In Wine Advocate issue #173 it remarks "Clarendon Hills is one of the world's first class wine estates".
