About the Winery

Johann Georg Shiraz is created in South Australia's Barossa Valley, by the Kalleske family who have been cultivating and developing grapes since the 1800s. It is a real state wine-developed, vintage and matured on the Kalleske estate at Greenock. Johann Georg Shiraz is a solitary vineyard wine delivered from the most seasoned vineyard on the Kalleske farm. The wine is a tribute to  Johann Georg Kalleske, the first Kalleske ancestor to move to Australia. Johann Georg was born in Brätz, Prussia in 1794 and relocated to South Australia with his wife and kids in 1838. This vineyard was planted in 1875 and creates low yields of around one ton every acre from old, knarly, dry grown vines. The top soil is sandy with phenomenal dirt subsoil.

About the Wine

The wine is black in shading with a purple edge. On the nose there is a wealth of ready dark fruit, chocolate, liquorice, white pepper and roasted meats. The sense of taste is really amazing. A complex cluster of ready, black fruits joined with pepper, cedar and dark chocolate. The tannins are very velvety and smooth. The wine is multi-layered and it has a long and engaging completion. A really genuine old wine of astounding lavishness and complexity.
